San

San, otherwise known as Princess Mononoke , represents the defender of the forest. Forest spirits protect their home from destructive humans. San , being human herself and raised by wolves, detests humans. This hatred leads her on a quest to kill lady Eboshii. Her meeting with lead character Prince Ashitaka enables her to understand the need to end the conflict between humans and forest spirits. San's strength is her loyalty to all living beings and spirits in the forest and her vigilant determination to end the source of killing the forest -even if it means killing her fellow humans.

Lady Eboshii

Lady Eboshi is the representation of the greed and progress of industry. Her fight for the expansion of Iron Town manifests a destructive nature in her. Her and her men fight forest gods and eventually attempt to kill the Forest Spirit, himself. Her strength is found in her nurturing of the lepers, whores, and ex-vagabonds, whom she trains to build Iron Town and manufacture advanced weaponry to eliminate the forest gods.
